Things You Are Never Supposed to Say

If you are self-professed political junkie who has followed this race closely and worked on primaries in various states, both geographical and mental, I would venture to say there are things that should be kept to one’s self.

I will not be doing that for the rest of this post.

I am tired. I am tired in the sense of not getting enough sleep and I am tired in the sense of an emotional exhaustion with the world around me.

Let’s start by saying I am more excited about earth day and Game 2 of the Mavs vs Hornets than I am about today’s primary. That is probably something I shouldn’t put in my political blog.

I read a bit on Salon today that said, though pundits and others around the country are ready for this to be over, Pennsylvania is excited about their Democratic Primary today. I am glad they are stoked and plan on going out and voting in record numbers, but there is a tiny voice in the back of my head wishing that this primary might give a decisive swing one way or another. Is that bad?

I read yesterday another one of the hypotheticals floating about postulating that if the Democratic primary were handled in an entirely different fashion, Hillary would be winning. This brain gem came from the once-great Bill Clinton.

Speaking of Bill, I have tired of him as well. I have tired of his ongoing stumble through his wife’s campaign and the circus that has become the moment he opens his mouth. His newfound perpetual ineptitude has truly saddened me because he was the first President I really cared about. He was the first one I was eligible to vote for and was the first one I followed. He has a part in my love of politics and now he has a part in my loathing of the political season. Perhaps we have come full circle?!?

In addition to his recent embrace of counter-factuals and disdain for rules, he has accused Obama of playing the race card on him.

“No, I think that they played the race card on me,” said Clinton, “and we now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.”

This kind of ongoing nonsense makes me tired, but it is nothing compared to his next Clintonian twist:

Bill Clinton denied Tuesday he had accused the Obama campaign of ‘playing the race card’ during a Monday interview.

Granted, I am tired so let me just backup quickly to make certain I have not lost my mind:

“No, I think that they played the race card on me,” said Clinton, “and we now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.”

It appears my mind is working so I can only assume the Clinton’s continue to believe American voters are stupid - and that makes me really tired.

Am I alone here?

Misleading Ads, quotes taken out of context, feigned indignation over comments and gaffes…tired, tired and tired. It feels as if this race has become more about nonsense than issues.

Will Pennsylvania make a difference? Probably not the difference we have been hoping for. It looks as if Clinton will win the state by about 8 points and then what? It is not enough of a victory for her to make up any real ground in delegates or popular vote. We will suffer through more inane talk about big states and the importance of them in a general election. We will hear talk about experience and 3am and kitchen-talk.

Without a knockout blow, Obama will have to spin the loss as expected but talk about how far down he was at one time in the polls. We will hear more about change, Bosnia and hope. Talking heads will spend a few days dissecting the primary and then we will move on to Indiana and North Carolina.

Cue Bill Murray.

Cue the groundhog.

Rinse and repeat.

I am jaded? I am 34 and have had too much of a charmed life to be jaded. Am I becoming cynical? Does a cynic even recognize their own cynicism? Have I tired of nonsense…maybe.

What you have just witnessed was a Tuesday morning venting session. I am not even sorry.

The good news is that we get to do this all over again soon for the general election.

Cue Bill Murray.

Cue the groundhog.

Rinse and repeat.
